Training takes a lot of time and usually leads to very few specific results – this understanding prompted the founders of the Rapid Learning Institute to develop a new training program. Its concept is based on the use of videos lasting a maximum of ten minutes that focus on a single subject. Importantly, these videos are only viewed when the information they contain needs to be implemented. This approach is based on the belief that people only remember the things that they learn when they directly apply them, and that people in the modern working world have very short attention spans. The people behind the organisation call this concept ‘chunk learning’.
The learning units are designed as simple PowerPoint presentations with voice overs, and are continually developed. Some units provide an overview of complex topics (such as conflict management), whereas others describe specific methods (for example, the reverse cold feet method). Until now, the organisation has focused on marketing and management.
